Over the years, Marvel has created a vast universe with many movies, which is not an easy task to approach. In this article, we talk about the existing ways to watch Marvel movies in what order and provide a complete list of movies with ratings, trailers, and descriptions.
Before we tell you about the Marvel movies, in what order to watch them, and a little about the plots, we should note that our selection does not include animated projects. The series are also noted only indirectly, although they have an important role in the plot.
The post-credits scenes are Marvel’s trademark and flirt with the audience, telling about upcoming projects. Some scenes were intentionally omitted, so be sure to wait until the credits end or rewind to the end of the credits to make sure you don’t miss any references or important plot details!
How to Watch Marvel Movies in Order
The chronology of Marvel movies can be compiled using two approaches: Marvel films by the order in which they were released or by the time events take place on the screen. The second method is more suitable for real fans who are not afraid of spoilers. For example, according to the internal chronology, the Loki series begins immediately after the Avengers movie, but the plot focuses on time travel, alternate universes, and characters in them. The series has a large number of references for those who are already familiar with the franchise. In addition, it indirectly tells about the events of Avengers: Endgame.
We choose the first approach, which is based on the chronology of the release of the films, so our list is for those who want to break into the universe from scratch and figure out in what order to watch Marvel movies.
All Marvel movies and T.V. series are conventionally divided into phases. Although there is no indication of a phase in the credits, usually the film company itself and fans mean by this a set of projects, which is first announced and then gradually implemented over 3-5 years. We will keep this separation so that you can better navigate this amazing universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be able to surprise you with an original approach. First of all, the Guardian team are completely wrong comic book heroes that you might be used to. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a group of Earthlings: Peter “Star-Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt), the chattering raccoon Rocket, the charismatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the taciturn Drax (Dave Batista), and the charming tree Groot. They’re definitely not looking for a dream team, but they’ll have to team up against Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), who is on the hunt for the Power Stone. All this will lead to the creation of the space team “Guardians of the Galaxy” – the most reckless of all the universes.

In this film, the meaning of the stones, which until then had been mentioned only indirectly, is revealed more deeply. Director: Taika Waititi
Actors: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett

Taika Waititi managed to bring his special light style to Marvel, so “Ragnarok” turned out to be a funny and sometimes even absurd film. Everything is restless in Asgard again: Thor learns that Loki rules under the guise of Odin, and where Odin himself has gone is unknown. In an attempt to find him, the brothers turn to Doctor Strange but find Odin too late: the god dies, finally telling the brothers that they have an evil older sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett). Very soon, Ragnarok will break out, which will destroy Asgard.
Hela is indeed announced: he seizes power in Asgard, destroys Thor’s hammer, and sends Thor and Loki to the planet Sakaar. Loki feels like a fish in water here. Thor, on the other hand, will have to team up with the Hulk, who unexpectedly found himself on Sakaar, and the Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who once left Asgard, in order to confront Hela and protect his homeland. In the course of the battle, Asgard is destroyed. The homeless Asgardians head to Earth in search of a new place to live. Captain Marvel
Year: 2019
Director: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Actors: Brie Larson, Jude Law
IMDb rating: 6.8
The film tells the story of Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, one of the most powerful superheroines in the Marvel Universe. Carol’s search for the truth leads not only to the discovery of the true cause of the interplanetary conflict but also to the understanding of the source of her superpowers and her true purpose.
Brie Larson, who played the role of Carol Danvers, fell out of favor with fans long before the release of the film itself. Bree was accused of being too sullen and arrogant, and an entire Internet campaign was launched to boycott the movie. But what about today? In November 2023, Captain Marvel 2 was released worldwide — and its expectancy rating on Kinopoisk was 90%! However, the first estimates are not very high yet. Let’s see what happens when more people see the film.

Saga of the Multiverse
Phase Four
The fourth phase of the Multiverse Saga consists of a large number of series at the moment. In this article, we will not focus on them, but we will list them in chronological order. Some of their events are closely related and echo the subsequent films.
Black Widow
Year: 2021

Actors: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh
IMDb rating: 6.7
Despite the fact that the story of Black Widow officially ended in the movie Avengers: Endgame, the beloved Russian spy received a full-fledged spin-off. The film tells about the past of Black Widow and everything that happened to her before joining the Avengers team. In order to stop Taskmaster (a mysterious villain who can copy and reproduce the fighting techniques of his opponents), Natasha has to team up with members of the “family” – other Russian spy girls raised together with Natasha in a special school.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Year: 2021
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
Actors: Simu Liu, Tony Leung Chu Wai, Awkwafina
IMDb rating: 7.4
The story of Shang-Chi, the first Asian superhero in the Marvel Universe, is a story of escaping from himself and finding his purpose. His father, Xu Wenwu, was the sole owner of the powerful Ten Rings in the distant past, with the help of which he created his secret organization. Shang-Chi refused to follow in his father’s footsteps and settled in New York, changing his name and living a normal life. But the past catches up with Shang-Chi, and now he is forced to face his inner demons head-on. Perhaps it is logical that in a film with an Asian flavor, the audience expects a large number of high-quality scenes with fights – and the creators of Shang-Chi fully met these expectations by inviting Bill Pope, who worked, for example, on the Matrix trilogy, as a cameraman.
Eternals
Year: 2021
Director: Chloé Zhao

IMDb rating: 6,3

The Eternals, being immortal, become participants and witnesses of a variety of events and milestones in human history, influencing its development. However, at a certain point, they begin to question their role and mission – that’s when a new threat comes their way that could destroy humanity.
Spider-Man: No way home
Year: 2021
Director: Jon Watts
Actors: Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe
IMDb rating: 8.2
It’s a film that every Spider-Man fan has been waiting for with a sparkle in their eyes. Holland’s spider, in an attempt to regain his reputation, turns to Doctor Strange for help. As a result of a spelling error, spiders of all realities end up in the same universe: Holland, Maguire, and Garfield. In addition to the star trio, their classic enemies find themselves in the same world: Dr. Octavius (Alfred Molina), the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), the Sandman, Electro, and the Lizard. Can three Spider-Men defeat a legion of villains?
Even Eddie Brock and Venom stopped by the light for a short time. Fans are looking forward to the meeting between Peter Parker and Venom, but so far, the rights to the latter belong to Sony, so there is no information about the full-fledged film yet.

IMDb rating: 6.1
Scott Lang is now a successful writer. He is happy with Hope and has a great relationship with his daughter, Cassie. Cassie herself is exceptionally intelligent. During a visit to Hope’s parents, she reveals that she has been working for a long time on a device that can help establish a connection with the quantum world. Hope’s mother tries to turn off the dangerous device, but by chance, a portal opens, and the five end up in the Quantum Realm. Now, they need to figure out how to get out and get back to their normal lives. Despite the high anticipation rating, the film received lukewarm reviews from critics, who noted that Quantumania does not develop the universe in any way and is marking time.
Guardians of the Galaxy. Vol 3
Year: 2023
Director: James Gunn
Actors: Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan
IMDb rating: 7,9
Things don’t go according to plan for the Guardians again. As soon as they settled in Oblivion, they were immediately attacked by a mysterious creature created by sovereigns. Despite the victory, Rocket is seriously injured in the fight. And it is impossible to cure it by conventional means: the Rocket has a built-in death chip inside. To save the Rocket, you need to enter the cancellation code, which the Orgocorp Corporation stores. As the Guardians search for the code, Rocket deliriously recalls her childhood codes.
The film received a lot of positive reviews and high praise on Kinopoisk. The idea of telling about Rocket’s past initially had every chance of success because an anthropomorphic talking raccoon has to have a special origin story!
Captain Marvel 2
Director: Nia DaCosta
Actors: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani
IMDb rating: 6
After the events of the first film, the planet Hala was left depleted and almost destroyed by civil war. The new ruler of the Kree race (inhabiting the planet Hala), Dar-Benn, finds an amazing bracelet decades later. Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, has exactly such a quantum bracelet.
Thanks to it, Dar-Benn manages to create huge black holes in space, through which it is possible to steal atmospheres, the sun, and water from other planets.
Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and superheroine Monica Rambeau come into contact with a wormhole, causing quantum entanglement. Whenever one of the girls uses a superpower, she is teleported to the place of the other, and so on, in a vicious circle. Captain Marvel, her fan Ms. Marvel, and Monica will have to team up to thwart Dar-Benn’s plans.
It is worth noting that Captain Marvel 2 turned out to be almost the only film that cannot be watched in isolation from the entire franchise. To understand the intricacies of the plot, you will have to familiarize yourself with Ms. Marvel, Wanda/Vision, and, possibly, Thor and Hawkeye to understand all the references and jokes.
The film did not receive a warm reception: the reviews were cool, and the ratings were noticeably low. But if you’ve been tormented by the question of where Captain Marvel was throughout Infinity War, then you’ll find the answer in this movie.
Where’s Deadpool?!
If everything is more or less clear with Venom (the rights to him belong to Sony, so the films with Tom Hardy are not considered the Marvel universe), then mutants and Deadpool need to be dealt with. Marvel’s Deadpool 3 movie is scheduled for release in 2024, but the first two do not appear in our selection. How did it happen? The fact is that for a long time, the rights to mutants were held by the Twentieth Century Fox company, which managed to shoot X-Men with its Pietro Maximoff and several films about Wolverine. It was Twentieth Century Fox that filmed the first two parts of Deadpool. In 2017, Disney, which owns Marvel, bought Twentieth Century Fox, so the thirdquel is now officially considered part of the Marvel Universe.
How Marvel will integrate the character into its universe and whether past films will guide it – we will find out in 2024.
