Mike Flanagan’s latest Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, has unveiled its first trailer, offering a haunting yet emotional take on the end of the world.
A Story Told in Reverse
The film, based on King’s novella from If It Bleeds, tells the story of Charles “Chuck” Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), an ordinary man whose death is mysteriously linked to the apocalypse. The narrative unfolds in reverse chronological order, exploring Chuck’s life in three stages, portrayed by:
- Tom Hiddleston (as adult Chuck)
- Jacob Tremblay (as young Chuck)
- Benjamin Pajak (as child Chuck)
A Haunting & Philosophical Journey
The trailer teases Flanagan’s signature eerie atmosphere, with visuals of a ticking clock, an ECG heart line, and an ominous mall setting. A reflective voice-over from Hiddleston’s character sets the tone:
“The universe is large, and it contains multitudes, but… it also contains me.”
Unlike Flanagan’s previous horror films (Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game), The Life of Chuck blends drama, fantasy, and psychological thriller elements, exploring themes of memory, joy, and the inevitability of death.
An All-Star Cast & Festival Praise
Joining Hiddleston in this genre-blending drama are:
- Mark Hamill
- Karen Gillan
- Chiwetel Ejiofor
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and won the top audience award, solidifying it as one of 2025’s most anticipated releases.
