The highly anticipated trailer for The Surfer, a psychological thriller starring Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage, has officially debuted online. The film, which first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 2.
A High-Stakes Battle on the Waves
In The Surfer, Cage plays a man who returns from the United States to his homeland in Australia to reunite with his teenage son. However, after a confrontation with a gang of local surfers turns into public humiliation, he finds himself caught in a dangerous battle for survival as tensions spiral into chaos.
The film also features Julian McMahon (Charmed), with Lorcan Finnegan (Vivarium) directing and Thomas Martin (Ripper Street) penning the script.
Critical Acclaim and Release Plans
Following its Cannes debut, The Surfer has garnered strong reviews from critics, holding an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 69/100 score on Metacritic.
While its release in Russia remains uncertain, U.S. audiences can experience the gripping thriller when it arrives in theaters on May 2.
