Sydney Sweeney is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in Legendary Entertainment’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Gundam, according to sources close to Deadline. Details regarding her role remain undisclosed, as does the overall plot of the film. Legendary has declined to comment on the casting.
Direction and Production Team
The film is being directed by Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle, who is also writing the script. Mickle will produce the project alongside Linda Moran through their production company, Nightshade. The project is a co-development between Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks, the owner of the Gundam franchise.
The Gundam Legacy
The Gundam franchise, a pioneer of the “mecha” sci-fi subgenre featuring giant fighting robots, originated with the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series in 1979. Since then, it has evolved into a massive multimedia franchise, generating over $600 million annually through various media and merchandise sales. Legendary first announced plans for a Gundam live-action adaptation in 2021, initially with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to the project.
