Samuel L. Jackson to Star in Paramount’s Man of War with Tim Story Set to Direct

Western Thriller Taps Hollywood Powerhouses for Gritty Southern Showdown

Paramount Pictures has officially greenlit Man of War, a high-stakes Western thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson and directed by Tim Story, Deadline has confirmed. The project will see Jackson in the lead role as a retired military general returning to a hometown plagued by corruption and racial injustice, setting the stage for an explosive confrontation.

A Modern Western Rooted in Social Commentary

Written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air), Man of War centers on a decorated general who returns to rural Georgia after his wife’s death, only to discover his community being dismantled by greed, gentrification, and deep-seated racism. When he learns that a billionaire is exploiting the town and its people, he turns to the tactical brilliance and combat skills that once made him a legend, launching an all-out war for justice.

Turner will produce the film alongside Jennifer Klein through their production banner, 100% Productions. Tim Story will also produce through The Story Company, with Vicky Story as the executive.

Jackson and Story Reunite for a Grounded, Character-Driven Action Story

This marks a new collaboration between Jackson and Story, two veterans whose influence spans decades of film and television. Jackson, an Honorary Oscar recipient, brings an iconic résumé that includes Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, Avengers: Endgame, Jurassic Park, and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He has over 150 films to his name and has earned recognition from the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, SAG, and NAACP Image Awards.

Tim Story is one of the most commercially successful Black directors in Hollywood history. With eight No. 1 box office debuts, his directing credits include Ride Along, Think Like a Man, Fantastic Four, and Barbershop. He was the first Black director to helm a Marvel film, and his body of work has grossed over $1 billion globally. His upcoming projects include The Pick Up starring Eddie Murphy for Amazon Studios and 72 Hours at Netflix featuring Kevin Hart.

A Timely Story with Blockbuster Potential

Man of War arrives at a time when socially conscious thrillers continue to resonate with global audiences. Combining action, drama, and timely political themes, the film positions itself as both a throwback to classic Westerns and a reflection of modern-day American realities. Paramount’s decision to bring together Jackson’s magnetic screen presence and Story’s box office pedigree underscores the studio’s confidence in the project’s impact.

While no release date has been confirmed, production is expected to begin later this year. As the team gears up for casting and pre-production, Man of War is already generating buzz as a potential awards-season contender and crowd-pleasing hit.

Industry Veterans Fueling Creative Momentum

CAA, Anonymous Content, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman represent Jackson. UTA, The Collins Jackson Agency, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole represent the story. Their latest collaboration reflects a continued shift toward major studios investing in high-concept, character-driven stories that merge action with socially relevant narratives.

Keep an eye on Man of War as more casting and production updates roll out in the coming months — this is one showdown moviegoers won’t want to miss.
