‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Renewed for Season 3 at Disney+ Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

Disney+ has officially renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a third season, even before the highly anticipated second season has aired. The renewal signals the streaming platform’s confidence in the adaptation of Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series.

Season 3 Based on The Titan’s Curse

The upcoming third season will be based on The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Riordan’s popular Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. This season will introduce key characters such as Nico di Angelo and Bianca di Angelo, the children of Hades, as well as the Hunters of Artemis.

“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+,” Riordan said in a statement. “This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”

Season 2 Set for December Premiere

The renewal comes as production on Season 2 has recently wrapped. The new season, set to premiere in December, follows Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood as they navigate the events of The Sea of Monsters. This season will see Percy dealing with unexpected revelations, including discovering that he has a cyclops for a brother, while also embarking on a perilous journey to rescue Grover and save Camp Half-Blood from the forces of Kronos.

Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood) are set to reprise their roles. Additionally, Charlie Bushnell and Dior Goodjohn will return as series regulars, while new cast members include Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, and Daniel Diemer as Tyson, Percy’s half-brother.

Disney’s Commitment to the Series

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, emphasized the show’s impact on audiences. “From the moment Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted, it was clear this series had struck a chord with fans of all ages,” Davis stated. “With season two set to premiere this December, we’re thrilled to announce that Percy’s journey will continue with a third season. Huge thanks to our incredible cast and creative team, our partners at 20th Television, and our visionary and talented producers who continue to bring Rick Riordan’s world to life with such depth and imagination.”

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was a major success for Disney+, ranking among the top five most-watched original series across all streaming platforms during its premiere week, according to Nielsen ratings.

Future of the Series

Riordan has previously stated his intention to adapt each book into a single season, making this renewal a logical move to maintain continuity and accommodate the ages of the lead actors. With Season 3 now confirmed, fans can look forward to even more thrilling adventures in the world of Greek mythology.

Production details for Season 3, including new casting announcements and filming schedules, are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
