‘Lost’ Co-Creator Carlton Cuse and Son Nick Cuse Team Up for a Galaxy-Spanning Project
A brand-new Star Wars series is officially in the works, and it’s coming from a unique creative duo—Carlton Cuse, the veteran behind Lost, and his son Nick Cuse. According to Variety, the project is in the early stages of development.
While plot specifics are tightly under wraps, this marks the first time the father-son team will collaborate on a major television production, and what better universe to dive into than the expansive world of Star Wars?
No Details Yet on Characters, Timeline, or Cast
Lucasfilm has yet to confirm where this series will fall in the larger Star Wars timeline or which familiar (or new) characters may appear. Casting decisions are also unknown at this point, making the project even more mysterious.
What is known, however, is that Carlton Cuse joins a long line of Lost alumni to contribute to the Star Wars franchise.
Lost Alums and the Star Wars Universe
J.J. Abrams, who co-created Lost, previously directed two major entries in the Skywalker Saga: The Force Awakens (2015) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
Meanwhile, Damon Lindelof, Cuse’s former Lost co-showrunner, was tapped to co-write a new Star Wars film alongside Justin Britt-Gibson. That project was originally centered on Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. However, Lindelof later revealed he was “asked to leave” the franchise in 2023. The screenplay duties were then passed on to Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), who eventually exited, leaving the film still in development with George Nolfi writing and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directing.
More Star Wars Projects in the Pipeline
This new series joins an ever-expanding list of Star Wars content in development, including:
- A new trilogy from Simon Kinberg
- A mystery project from Taika Waititi
- The recently announced Star Wars: Starfighter movie, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, was confirmed at the Star Wars event in Tokyo
The Cuse Duo’s Track Record
After Lost, Carlton Cuse continued to build a powerful TV portfolio with hit series like Bates Motel, The Strain, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Locke & Key.
Nick Cuse, on the other hand, has carved out his own impressive path by writing and producing credits for acclaimed shows like The Leftovers, Watchmen, and Station Eleven.
This upcoming Star Wars project will be their first collaboration as a writing-producing team.
