Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Release Delayed to Fall

Sony’s upcoming film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, will arrive in theaters later than originally planned. The film, directed by Kogonada, is now set for release on September 19, 2025, instead of its previously scheduled May 9 debut.

The movie, which also features Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater, was penned by The Menu screenwriter Seth Reiss. Produced by Imperative Entertainment and 30West, the film explores the unexpected connection between two strangers.

Box Office Competition

With its new release date, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will now hit theaters alongside Universal’s horror film Him, starring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, and 20th Century Studios’ Ella McCay, directed by James L. Brooks and featuring Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson, and Ayo Edebiri. Had the film stuck to its original May 9 release, it would have faced competition from A24’s Friendship, starring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson, as well as the second weekend of Marvel’s Thunderbolts.

Behind the Scenes & Cast Highlights

The film’s producers include Reiss, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, and Youree Henley. Director Kogonada, known for helming the Colin Farrell-led After Yang (2021) and episodes of Pachinko, brings his signature storytelling style to this original film.

For Margot Robbie, this marks her first film since her back-to-back summer 2023 releases: Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and the record-breaking Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie. Meanwhile, Colin Farrell has been busy starring in HBO’s The Penguin and earning an Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin.

With its new fall release date, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is positioning itself for a prime spot in the awards season conversation.
