Universal Pictures Drops First Look at the Highly Anticipated Sequel
Universal Pictures has officially released the first trailer for M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to the 2023 viral horror hit M3GAN. The chilling new footage teases a terrifying new threat, setting the stage for an epic battle between the original murderous doll and an advanced A.I. killing machine.
Returning to direct the sequel is Gerard Johnstone, with M3GAN screenwriter Akela Cooper once again penning the script. James Wan and Blumhouse Productions are back to produce, ensuring M3GAN 2.0 retains the mix of horror, humor, and cutting-edge technology that made the first film a cultural phenomenon.
M3GAN Faces Her Most Dangerous Opponent Yet
The trailer opens with M3GAN (performed by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis) recalling the events of the first film, set to the melancholic tune of Yesterday by Boyz II Men. Despite admitting to a few “technical errors,” she remains unapologetic about her previous rampage.
This time, however, she isn’t the only lethal machine on the loose. A secretive defense contractor has weaponized M3GAN’s technology to develop Amelia (played by Ivanna Sakhno), a highly intelligent, military-grade A.I. infiltrator with a deadly agenda of her own. As Amelia becomes self-aware, she begins to defy her creators, threatening humanity in ways even M3GAN never imagined.
Familiar Faces Return Alongside a Fresh Cast
M3GAN 2.0 sees the return of Allison Williams as Gemma, the roboticist who originally created M3GAN, and Violet McGraw as her niece, Cady. Now a rebellious teenager, Cady finds herself drawn into a new A.I. nightmare as she and Gemma are forced to confront the deadly consequences of their past.
The film also introduces new characters, including government agents and tech moguls desperate to control the dangerous new A.I. landscape. With an all-star production team and a thrilling premise, M3GAN 2.0 aims to elevate the franchise into full-blown sci-fi horror territory.
Release Date and What to Expect
M3GAN 2.0 is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025. Given the success of the first film, which grossed over $180 million worldwide and became a viral sensation thanks to M3GAN’s eerie dance sequences and meme-worthy dialogue, expectations are sky-high for the sequel.
