Paramount Unveils First Look at the Comedy Reboot
Paramount Pictures has officially released the first trailer for its highly anticipated reboot of The Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. This new installment pays homage to the original hit films that featured Leslie Nielsen as the hilariously incompetent detective.
The reboot, directed by Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers filmmaker Akiva Schaffer, introduces Neeson as the son of the original Drebin, blending slapstick humor with modern action-comedy elements.
A Fresh Yet Familiar Take on the Classic Character
The trailer showcases a revamped Drebin Jr., who appears to be a more capable officer than his father—at least at first glance. One standout moment features him taking down a disguised criminal using a sharpened lollipop, a nod to the over-the-top physical comedy that made the franchise a cult favorite.
Fans of the original trilogy will also recognize tributes to classic characters. The trailer includes Drebin Jr. emotionally addressing a photograph of his late father, along with references to the offspring of Captain Ed Hocken (originally played by George Kennedy) and Officer Nordberg, famously portrayed by O.J. Simpson.

Aside from Neeson, the film features Pamela Anderson and Danny Huston in key roles. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is attached as a producer, ensuring the film retains a balance of satire and nostalgia.
Despite his background in action-packed roles like the Taken series, Neeson has previously showcased comedic timing in films such as Ted 2 and A Million Ways to Die in the West. His casting signals a fresh yet faithful approach to the franchise’s deadpan humor.
