Weezer’s Long-Awaited Movie Confirmed as Absurdist Mockumentary
Weezer is officially making their big-screen debut in a new mockumentary-style film, and Hollywood legend Keanu Reeves has been cast as the villain. According to a report by film insider Jeff Sneider, the project is being described as a hilarious blend of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
The news comes after Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo casually mentioned during their Coachella 2025 set that the band was working on a movie. While details were scarce at the time, Sneider’s report reveals an all-star cast including Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, and Ben Schwartz, alongside the band members themselves.
Keanu Reeves and Weezer’s Decades-Long “Rivalry” Takes Center Stage
Reeves’s casting is particularly fitting given his long history with Weezer. The band’s first-ever live performance was opening for Reeves’ alt-rock group Dogstar in 1992. The two acts reunited in 2024 for a joint tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of Weezer’s Blue Album, with Dogstar returning as openers.
The film reportedly leans into their playful “rivalry,” with Reeves playing an exaggerated antagonist. Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Nerve) are helming the project, while action maestro David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train) serves as producer.
