Horror Sequel Set for Exclusive Theatrical Release
Blumhouse founder Jason Blum made a dramatic entrance at CinemaCon 2025, fully dressed as one of the franchise’s infamous animatronic killers, to reveal the first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2—the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s box office sensation.
The first installment, based on the cult-favorite video game series, shattered expectations, becoming Blumhouse’s biggest hit. Unlike the original, which premiered simultaneously on Peacock and in theaters, Blum assured audiences that the sequel will have an exclusive theatrical release.
Trailer Teases More Chilling Mysteries
The newly unveiled trailer hints at deeper horrors lurking within Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. A tense exchange between Elizabeth Lail and Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role as Mike Schmidt, sets the tone: “They’re out there, Mike.” When asked to clarify, she ominously responds, “Everywhere.”
Returning cast members include Piper Rubio and Matthew Lillard, while director Emma Tammi once again helms the project. Tammi co-wrote the screenplay with franchise creators Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.
Record-Breaking First Film Sets High Expectations
The original Five Nights at Freddy’s grossed over $80 million domestically on its opening weekend, making it Blumhouse’s highest-grossing debut. Despite its streaming release on Peacock, it proved to be a massive theatrical success.
Blumhouse and Universal Pictures officially announced the sequel at last year’s CinemaCon, and Tammi hinted that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 would resolve several lingering plot threads from the first film.
Release Date and What to Expect
Fans won’t have to wait too long for another dose of animatronic terror. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on December 5, 2025.
