Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro Quietly Dating, Source Confirms (Exclusive)

A source tells PEOPLE the couple has been keeping things “lowkey” while spending time together.

Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro are quietly seeing each other, a source exclusively tells PEOPLE.

“They’ve been really lowkey and have been spending time together quietly,” the source shares about the We Live in Time actor, 41, and A Complete Unknown star, 34.

Reps for both Garfield and Barbaro have not commented.

The pair were seen together at W Magazine’s Best Performances party in Los Angeles on Jan. 4, alongside Eddie Redmayne and Lynn Hirschberg. More recently, they were spotted sitting together in the audience for a performance of Richard II at London’s Bridge Theatre, starring Jonathan Bailey.

A video shared on social media on Feb. 20 showed the two casually dressed in baseball caps, chatting before the show began.

Past Relationships

Garfield was previously linked to spiritual reader Kate Tomas, with whom he was first spotted in March 2024. However, the two had split months before Tomas confirmed their breakup in October. Before that, he dated The Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone in the 2010s and later had a brief relationship with model Alyssa Miller in 2022.

In an October 2024 Esquire interview, Garfield made it clear that he prefers to keep his personal life private. “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone, ever,” he stated.

Monica Barbaro’s Rising Career

Barbaro, best known for her role in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), currently stars as Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, opposite Timothée Chalamet. Her performance earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at this year’s Academy Awards.

Following her nomination, Barbaro told PEOPLE that her Top Gun co-stars were thrilled: “Our group chat just blew up.”

She played Lt. Natasha “Phoenix” Trace in the blockbuster sequel, appearing alongside Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Val Kilmer, and more.

“They’re just super supportive and thrilled,” she added about her co-stars’ reaction to her Oscar nod.
