‘A Walk to Remember’ Reboot in Development at Monarch Media

Monarch Media has secured the rights to Nicholas Sparks’ beloved coming-of-age romance, A Walk to Remember, with plans to develop a reboot alongside original producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry.

A New Take on a Timeless Love Story

Originally published in 1999, A Walk to Remember follows a rebellious high school senior who falls in love with a quiet, faith-driven girl after being forced to participate in a school play. The novel explores themes of love, forgiveness, and living with purpose.

The first film adaptation, released in 2002 and starring Shane West and Mandy Moore, became a cult favorite despite a modest $48 million box office run. Now, Monarch Media aims to bring the story to a new generation.

Producers Excited for Reimagining

Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, and Vicky Patel will produce the reboot for Monarch Media, along with Di Novi, Margaret French-Isaac, Lowry, and Patty Reed.

Producer Steve Barnett expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:

“We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks’ timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film’s producers, Denise and Hunt.”

Denise Di Novi echoed his sentiments, highlighting the story’s enduring impact:

“This inspirational story of faith, hope, and love is more relevant now than ever.”

Nicholas Sparks’ Legacy Continues

With over 130 million books sold worldwide, Sparks remains one of the most successful contemporary authors. His other iconic adaptation, The Notebook, remains a hallmark of modern romance films.

Sparks’ latest novel, Counting Miracles, is currently being adapted by Amazon, and he is collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan on a supernatural romantic thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Monarch Media’s Expanding Slate

Monarch Media, known for producing Hit Man and Valiant One, is actively expanding its film portfolio. Alongside A Walk to Remember, the company is producing the animated feature Tangles and developing dark comedy Bune.

With a fresh vision and a dedicated team behind it, A Walk to Remember is set to captivate audiences once again.
